But David could be extraordinarily difficult during a production. He liked to manipulate people (he once had an entire crew searching madly for the false teeth that were in the pocket of his costume all along), and it would take a saint to be able to put up with him. He never failed to put on a great performance, though. I meet his half-brother Keith once while doing an article on a stage production of the play Foxfire, and found him thoughtful, gentle, and family-oriented. A nice change, though maybe he's had his moments of Carradine insanity too. By the way, Foxfire starred Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy, and I was thrilled to have a lovely conversation with them both.Beverlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15515783219367479399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3070623657970000135.post-16102653275661064192012-05-18T20:27:23.767-07:002012-05-18T20:27:23.767-07:00The whole Carradine family has always marched to t...The whole Carradine family has always marched to their own drummer - starting with John wandering the Hollywood streets in the wee hours with a snootful and a great set of lungs for bellowing out Shakespeare monologues. The next generation - starting with David - certainly had plenty of antics off camera to keep the name notorious as well as famous. The third generation seems to have calmed a bit - though they can make eclectic career choices with the best of them.

There was a fascinating ongoing correspondence in Psychotronic Video magazine that started with a David Carradine interview. In it he made some disparaging comments about Deathsport (co-)director Nicholas Niciphor(credited in the film as Henry Suso). Two issues later there was a long rebuttal letter from Niciphor, which then prompted an equally lengthy letter from David Carradine which appeared three issues after that. Do you by any chance have insight into this whole thing, Ms. Gray?Craig Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06037542638067599437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3070623657970000135.post-41301230303331390462012-02-24T17:29:23.474-08:002012-02-24T17:29:23.474-08:00Welcome back, Brian. But it's sad that he squandered so much of himself. He was masterful in front of the camera, but his off-screen life left much to be desired.Beverlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15515783219367479399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3070623657970000135.post-58628202376722717242012-02-19T10:35:18.437-08:002012-02-19T10:35:18.437-08:00Wow, this is one of the best posts I've read h...Wow, this is one of the best posts I've read here yet, and that's saying a great deal. I'm shocked no one has commented on it and ashamed it took me so long to do so myself, lol.

David Carradine has always been a favorite of mine, even though some of his bizarre statements bewilder me into trying to figure out whether he is truly off his rocker, or just having a bit of fun. But then, inflection is sometimes difficult to ascertain in a written conversation.

After reading this, I am relieved Carradine never found my review for his WARRIOR & THE SORCERESS, lol; although I do believe he had passed by then, sadly. As playfully condescending as it is, it would have been an honor to get a sound thrashing via email from one of my favorite actors! :Dvenoms5https://www.blogger.com/profile/13655919099947763891noreply@blogger.com
