I'm devastated by the wholesale loss of life that day - but boggled by all of the incredible ingenuity we and our allies brought to this endeavor - including the ghost army, the landing boats, the dummy paratroopers with attached fireworks, the floating roads used as a harbor. I think a student of history could make a career of this single battle.Craig Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06037542638067599437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3070623657970000135.post-55650949486944532052014-06-11T09:45:48.774-07:002014-06-11T09:45:48.774-07:00Rick, thanks so much for chiming in. This is certainly a topic worth knowing about! There will be lots more about Ingersoll's involvement in my forthcoming book (co-authored with Elizabeth Sayles) "the Ghost Army of World War II". It is being published in may 2015 by Princeton Architectural Press. I recall reading he bragged about it when he came back to PM, from which he was on leave to take part in the deception strategy. PM was a short-lived though innovative pro-FDR journalism venture accused by some of being too "Communist." My subject, Croswell Bowen, was on the staff. Bartlely Crum, lawyer who defended the Hollywood 10, tried to rescue PM after Ingersoll left and it foundered worse, but failed. An interesting connection, for me at least, with a chapter on this era in my forthcoming ....

Interesting crosscurrents, for pro-FDR left liberals.
